The Augustinian Convent

It is located in the heart of the medieval village of Certaldo and is part of the complex of the Rectory of Saints Jacopo and Filippo which also includes the Romanesque cloister, the garden and the undergrounds.
The Convent overlooks a small square, once the cemetery of the convent itself.

Today the convent is used as a Museum of Sacred Art, with religious works coming from the Ecclesiastical Vicariate of Certaldo. The rectory preserves inside rooms that still show traces of an ancient and austere beauty, such as the refectory. Here we find the only remaining column of a loggia that, originally, had to run the entire length of the building. It is interesting to note that this column is of the same workmanship as that of the De Peverelli palace, a link between the representative buildings of the nucleus which can certainly provide the cue for an overall dating.
